FATIGUE KILLS!

A major factor contributing to road accidents especially in “Rollover” cases is Fatigue, and it  usually causes fatalities or major injuries. Fatigue is deadly because it can happen to anyone and comes without warning. 

Fatigue Symptoms While Driving

You are Fatigue when …..
•You find yourself daydreaming and unable to focus.
•Yawning non-stop. Head nodding
 •Blurry vision and eyes feel heavy.
 •Overshot roadsigns/junctions
 •Suddenly finding yourself too close (tailgating) to the vehicle
  in front of you.
 •Unable to focus and keeping straight
 •Cannot remember what just passed-by.
 •Swerve or Zig-zagging off your lane.
 •Unable to keep constant speed.
 You have to stay awake to avoid a sleeping driver
that might be coming straight at you.  Work Safely.



Managing Fatigue


•Manage your time a day ahead. Allocate at least 7-8 hours’ sleep daily.
•Comply with your journey management and stop at recommended area in JM for long haul or overnight sleep if journey exceeded plan hours. Follow strictly to Driver Working Hours rules.
•Report to your supervisor if you are consuming any medication. Check with your doctor /pharmacist if medicine causes drowsiness.
•Always bring a long a wet towel to wipe face & refresh yourself when you feel sleepy.
•Stop and do a simple exercise after long drives or when you feel lethargic
•Avoid eating too full especially in the afternoon.
•Eat wisely. Eat less fatty/greasy or sweet food.
•Discipline yourself when it comes to bedtime. Get adequate rest.
•Understand your own body system. Report to your supervisor if you are always feeling fatigue. It could be another reason that is causing the symptoms, like “Sleep Apnea” , Chronic Fatigue Syndrom”or “Hypertension” that requires professional consultation.
